Lady Kate's Journal 2010

I wish to offer my gratitude to several of the long-standing members of the Daily Photo Community for inadvertently inspiring me to also continue with this project and participate here in this awesome community of multi-talented, inspirational creative artists! My purpose is to continue on with this project as a form of personal journal. Over the last half year or so, (it's now early August, 2010), I've had need to apply more focus in other areas of my life, which is still the case. I won't be posting on a daily basis; my intent is to journal more of the major events, adventures, people and creativities as they perk my life! This gallery begins by going backwards for a while in an attempt to catch up for 2010. Previous to the first image in this gallery, I posted only several 2010 images in my original Daily Photo gallery--which should have been seperated into two different galleries: 2008 and 2009. As it is, there are those two years presented therein. The last entry can be found HERE in "My Task At Hand".

Following my image from yesterday: "I'm Dreaming Of A Pink Christmas..." ,
please take note here of Santa's robe ;-)

Yesterday, Hillary's comment asked if the pink tree was the only one we had set up? The 'Pink Christmas' was
decorating I had noticed inside a store in downtown Chico, CA, and is an image from my Christmas archives.
This image is also from the archives. These decorations were on a beautiful tree in the lobby of a local Performing
 Arts Theater.

  • December 20/21, 2010 (12-20/21-2010)

Instead of posting a Christmas photo, I had been hoping for the cloud cover to dissipate because tonight is (was) a most auspicious full moon - the first full moon eclipse on the solstice since 1638. The next one is in 2094, a year none of us reading this post will be around to witness. The eclipse occurs over the US.

We've had clouds and rain for over a week now. The clouds were thinning out earlier tonight, and we saw the full moon for a while. I went outside a while ago and found the clouds mostly cleared around the moon and that the eclipse had already begun!

By the time I got the camera, and tried a few shots at different settings, a thin layer of clouds was coming in at about the same time that the eclipse went total. From then on, the clouds took over....no more moon ;-(

This is the very first shot I tried. The shading of the eclipse could been seen , but my settings blew the moon out.
So.....some fun with PS! I cropped it a bit, used the posterize filter and 95% color saturation!

You can view the original HERE.
For the original, I did slightly lighten the shadows.

BTW: check out all the numbers in the date and even time in photo info! 0's, 1's, 2's

I returned today from spending this last week in Rancho Cucamonga (Southeast Los Angeles area).
*** I was going to call you AndreaKaus, but we stayed pretty busy.***
I was visiting my son Travis, his wife Kimberli and their ohhh-so-cute and fun baby, Calix! This grandma certainly enjoyed herself !

By the time I finally got the camera settings just right to capture those eyes of his, it was apparently his naptime; the smiles had already been spent.

Travis even asked if I had done something to enhance his eyes in this photo ;-)
I did not! However, I did crop it a bit closer .

Featuring another image from this last Wednesday night at the Crystal Palace in Bakersfield.

With finger-snappin', toe-tappin' enthusiasm and admiration, I am 'pleased as punch' to introduce
Mr. Seth Walker!! At both of the outstanding musical events which we attended this last week, Seth
incredibly opened each show! My daughter and I hadn't heard him before; we'll surely be listening to much
more of him from here on!
He is an amazing guitarist with soulful, vintage blues feeling vocals catching your attention within minutes after his performance begins! I read a review describing him as "A little, white Ray Charles!" I agree!

Went on another road trip with the ladies yesterday! Headed over to the Crystal Palace, in Bakersfield to see another Raul Malo show!
Left home at 4:00 p.m.; returning this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. We had a fantabulous time; safe trip, outstanding show, much dancing, much
laughter, good friends, good food, good fun!!

The stage area has two big screens, up high on the walls, which are featuring what's happening on stage. What's showing on the screen changes perspectives every couple of minutes--great viewing elements for the audience. I was really loving the use of the screens in my shots!

Raul Malo on guitar and vocals - Michael Guerra on accordian

This is SOOC -- might touch it up a bit, later.

***Hillary---again we were wishing that you could have been with us ;-)

We went on a (quick) little road trip last night to attend a Raul Malo show at Yoshi's, a jazz club in San Francisco!
Left our area at 2:00 p.m. heading north. We picked up my daughter Kamryn in San Jose on the way (we knew the way!); arriving with time to spare for our 6:30 dinner reservations! After a good time was had by all, we dropped Kamryn off in S.J. at @1:30 a.m., and I finally arrived back at home at @5:00 a.m.
What the heck.....we can catch up on sleep!!

Yes!! Four of the Five Sisters (a few of the CCCMM - California Central Coast Malo Mamas) thoroughly enjoyed our time at Yoshi's-S.F.
Great resturant, great club, outstanding music---and we only got in trouble a couple of times ;-)
Excellent show, RM and the band!! Love this photo! You lucky man!

Hey.....Colleen Griffith, and billiejean.......this one is for you! Wish you could have joined us!!

Working on creating a gallery from last night's show. Might take a while to complete!

We enjoyed another day around our condo area. I'd been admiring the colors in these umbrellas and was elated when the couple went for a swim ;-)

I started my Maui gallery, but it will take a while before completion!

  • November 25 - remember....I'm still catching up from our week in Mauai!

It's Thanksgiving! So....after a walk on the beach, we tended to dinner preparations. We stuffed a pineapple, put it in the oven and went to play on the beach!

After the craftsman was finished, our daughter and I were admiring his creativity!
And to think some people limit themselves to a mere sandcastle!?!?

More about the craftsman later!

Thanks to Richard Kane for helping me decide which photo to choose!

Fourth day in Maui - took another wonderful early morning long walk south on the beach; enjoyed the area around the condo complex (beach, tide pools, lounge chairs on a beautiful lawn area alongside the sand, swimming pool); went to the grocery store in preparation for Thanksgiving dinner the next day; did some reading, swimming, snacking, and napping! An outstanding day!!
Again, I found it quite difficult to choose which photo to use for this DP. In the distance is the Island of Kaho'olawe. There is a much smaller, darker colored island (in front of the bigger one - center left of photo) which is Molokini; infamous for diving and snorkling.
Thank you for also enjoying our trip to paradise! Your comments have been appreciated, encouraging and fun!

I conducted an experiment on our third day on Maui: can I go an entire day without the use of my camera?!?!
I suceeded wth the test--with minimal withdrawals! But we were having a laid back day lounging between the pool and beach, and then a bit of shopping, so it was somewhat easy ;-)
So....this is another image from Nov. 22---our day of adventures in the Hana area.

DGL-Imaging.....here's another shot for you!!

This is our soon-to-be daughter-in-law Emily heeding my suggestion of swimming in the incredible, clear, cool and fresh waters in a cave. Definitely one of my favorite activities on Maui ! We were jumping in from a rock ledge @ 7 ft. above the
water level. The depth of the water in this area is @8-9 ft. Then when we swim forward from here underneath that rock
wall, it opens into a good sized cave room, with even deeper water. The farther you swim away from the light coming in from under that rock wall, the darker it gets! Then when you turn to face the light, it's reflecting in the water causing it to look a beautiful turquoise color! Emily had brought a digital underwater camera (have you seen those!! They are great!) and I tried to capture the effect, but got no shots that did the scene any justice whatsoever ;-(
It's etched in my mind though! And I can go there again at any given moment ;-))) And I will !

We packed a picnic and headed out early.....We survived the road to Hana!!

We shared a fabulous, adventure-filled (long) day. We stopped several times, with each stop being an adventure all its own!
I had a difficult time choosing which photo to post ;-) I was going to make a collage, but the images seemed to loose some impact in smaller size.
The Seven Sacred Pools. This is definitely one of my favorite places/adventures on Maui ! We didn't have time to head upstream from the bridge, which is very cool ! So we made wonderful use of our time in the lower pools!
Four of our family members can be seen in this shot; swimming across the pool in order to climb the rocks and jump back in!

  • November 21 - Thanksgiving week in paradise (Maui) -- first day

We rented two paddleboards in the morning, and took turns having our go at it! The winds began while our two sons were taking another turn. The Gods were obviously favoring them as a jetski was headed past them and the rider asked if they wanted a tow against the wind!! They thoroughy enjoyed their-much faster with less effort-ride back downwind!
In viewing this 3-shot panorama in larger version, you really can see them in the almost direct center.

In the far view, center left, is the Island of Lanai.

  • November 20 - Thanksgiving week in paradise (Maui) -- first night

Returned last night (the 27th) from spending a wonderful Thanksgiving week on the island of Maui !
For personal journaling, I'm going to be playing catch-up and post a favorite photo from each day of our trip.
That will be difficult though, as there are many favorites to choose from!

We arrived at our condo (Mana Kai Resort in Kihei) after dark on the 20th. After watching the full moon rise, this was the magnificient view from our lanai !
We had the priviledge of sharing this vacation with three of our kids (two sons and a daughter), and the fiance' of one of our sons. We had a great time together! However, we did miss our other three kids and their families, and have now begun plans for another visit to Maui---with the entire family! (finding the accommodations for that family vacation might be a challenge!!)
