July 16 ****Gruene, Texas ****-- the center of town just after midnight, we had it ALL to ourselves! Photo taken on July 2 during a Road Trip with my friend Maria--Texas or bust! ********************************************************************************************* I've missed my participation here in the Daily community ;-( I have an idea for y'all to ponder: A S'Mugger get-together!!?? The more the merrier! The first weekend in November (Friday - Sunday), meeting up in Gruene, Texas!?!? There's some excellent entertainment scheduled for Gruene Hall (the building in the center back ground of this photo) that weekend, playing both Friday and Saturday nights: Raul Malo There are several nice lodging accommodations and eateries right in town within walking distance of the music venue: List of lodging options Gruene is a delightful historic 'village' with photo ops galore, located @45 min. south of Austin. The weather in early November is usually very comfortable. Flights would be into Austin or San Antonio. So...any of you that happen to see this, please share the information with community members & other S'Muggers ! Maybe share the info on several of your upcoming posts over the next couple of months helping to make sure that everyone gets a chance to see it!? January 14 Our local newpaper did an awesome job presenting the Swan 'fundraiser' in a beautiful half page spread!! Now, let's put prayers and positive energy towards covering, at least, the costs for the care of the Swan, to be covered!!
January 9 Tonight Maria and I went to the lake because it looked like we might get a pretty sunset. It's only been the last two times that I took food stuffs to offer especially the Swan(s). Instead of abundant colors, I got to hand feed the Swan ;-))))) As I was tossing some food, a nice woman who's a regular at lake bird-feeding told me the Swan is very gentle and would take it from my hand! It was a first for me and a great experience, since I have an affinity for the Swans! However........it was cold! My knees were a bit frozen in this position as I tried to get up :-( Maria spent her time photographing me photographing the Swan. Wonderful Maria was VERY patient with me, even as her hands were freezing! Thanks Maria!! The last three times I've gone to get shots of the Swans, I never did see the second one (apparently, the female)? I have images of the two of them together in my Swan gallery . Maria and I talked about this last night wondering what happened to the other one, and hoping it was OK? Three hours later Maria called and told me that the female swan was in the news; an article had been written, and the story appeared on our 11:00 news last night. Swan Poisoning article Apparently right around Christmas, the female swan was rescued because she was obviously very ill. It was found that she had lead poisoning from swallowing a lead fishing sinker. Expert Vets were consulted, and some of our local (awesome) Vets (Drs. Polina Vishkautsan and David Edsall) were able to successfully remove the sinker from her stomach. They're thinking her recuperation period to be @ 2 months before she'll be taken back to the lake. That's wonderful ! However, I'm really feeling for this handsome guy, because Swans mate for life; he's probably sad and lonely ;-( I added more of tonights photos into my Swan gallery.
January 10 Last night I noticed a recent DP which MyKey posted: (http://mykey.smugmug.com/popular/4/450188587_rtkyk#450188587_rtkyk) re: the plans we're making for our upcoming "Great Rock-Hunting Expedition"! I took this photo, of 'MyKey-the photographer-taking a photo', during our trip last March; we had just experienced sunrise in Spangler Hills. This shot is perfectly illustrating a decision which we recently arrived upon re: our adventure for this year. We are not taking a U-Haul this time; we're going to bring home photos instead of (so many!) rocks!! We're REALLY looking forward to the experience! *****Maybe we should request that MyKey post whatever shot she was capturing here, while prone in the desert sand!?!?*****
February 12 A kindred spirit !! Great way to recharge after another day at 'The Part-time Job'! Love this area; it's different every evening! Met a couple of very pleasant gentlemen who didn't mind being this evening's silhouettes! (Thank you, Rand! Hope you got some beautiful shots!) I've included two DP's for today thus featuring both gentlemen! Also added to my 'Contender' gallery.
