May 31 Memorial Day weekend included a S'Mugger get-together - Our buddy, Al, chose to get away from the L.A. area for the weekend and came to visit! Al is a fellow S'Mugger, however is not (yet!) a member of the Daily community: Check out his website here! He joined us in pre-set Saturday evening plans / a gathering of friends at a local outstanding eatery-- Colby Jack Cafe & Bakery. Colby Jack recently began their seasonal Saturday live music in the courtyard series. This week was featuring a local band, The Demos. Al's perception of the event: "The Colby Jack Cafe + The Demos + Great friends = a fantastic evening!!!" The Demos at Colby Jack Cafe On Sunday I took Al to our local lake to meet Stanley (the Swan)! It was during that outing when I was dancing with the goose! (I have yet to deal with the rest of our lake/swan photos) ***************************** My friend Maria took this shot; we traded cameras for a while.
May 10 After my visit with the juvenile male swan Stanley yesterday, I headed out this afternoon to check on our Lady Swan. My new "tool" (Nikon D7000) also has video capabilities. This was the first time I've used that feature. Cool way to do a DP!! Sorry for the repetetive narrative ;-)
May 9 Enjoyed the sunset in a long overdue visit with my buddy here, Stanley! Update: the lead poisoned female swan ( story beginning January 9 here in my 2011 Journal ) recuperated to the point of being released back to this lake. However, our buddy Stanley had reached mating age, and would not leave her alone. It was decided that she would be taken to another local lake, so that she could eat and sleep in peace. And also in hopes that her mate would find her. Last I heard that still had not happened :-( However, she is thriving in her new area! It's time I pay her another (long overdue) visit, too! The photo was pretty cool SOOC, but I did enjoy a little practice session with Topaz - Simplify. **************************************** Thank you for the wonderful comments on the Maui wedding image! January 19 I watched this beautiful amber colored full moon rise tonight and got this shot of it, however it was boring. So I decided a practice session in PP was in order. I took this landscape image on Jan. 17 when Maria and I went on a "In Fashion, Bird Watching Photo Walk". In PS Elements, I grabbed the moon (!!) and dropped it onto the landscape, making it whatever size I decided I'd like to see....because I can! I then used a Topaz filter. Cutting something from an image and applying it to another is new for me. This could open up an entire new photo world!!
1/11/11 I had an incredibly cool time at the lake this evening!! The sky was looking like it might be a very pretty show and when I first arrived, my Swan buddy was way over at the other side. As the show continued, the Swan finally made his way over to me. I had noticed that two 'fishermen' were using canned corn on their hooks and since I didn't bring any Swan treats, I asked to have some so to offer to the Swan. Everybody was happy! I'm sparing y'all another Swan shot....however---I DID get some gorgeous shots of him tonight!! Swan 1/11/11.
