My version of "Daily Photos" will be ever-so-typical of myself: 'A Different Little Twist'!!

I'm using this gallery as an impetus: one of my present goals is to add several photos per day into this website.
As I'm doing so, I will choose one of the photos to include in this 365 day project!
(If I experience a difficult time choosing which image to use as my 'Daily Photo', I'll add the other choice(s) into my Contender gallery)

Occasionally, there will be days when the photo was actually taken on that particular day!
This will probably be governed by available time and my creative spirit!

The photos within this gallery are available to order as prints and other merchandise; click on the 'buy' icons.

I will appreciate any comments and/or critiques; click on the 'add comments' on the bottom left, and please include your name! You can also vote on the photos, if you choose; drag your pointer onto the enlarged image on the right; a box will appear on the top right which allows the voting process. Just click either yea-or-nay!

Thank you for visiting this Gallery, and I hope you enjoy the photos presented here!

A part of my being MIA:
VERY early on the morning of June 20, I flew to Detroit, to spend a couple of days w/ my son, Travis and his wife. I helped them finish packing up a U-Haul truck, then Travis and I began our journey! Leaving Ann Arbor, Michigan on the afternoon of Monday, the 22nd, we headed in the direction of San Bernardino, CA!! (His wife had to stay a while longer to finish up her job)

(On May 19, my DP and commentary told of Travis interviewing for the position as Head Coach for Women's Soccer, at Cal State San Bernardino - - -shortly thereafter he was offered the position!)

We experienced a wonderful and safe journey together, but we were on a mission; had to arrive in S.B. by Friday at noon. I'm really posting this to tell of how many of you I thought of, knowing we were within range to meet up, for even just a short time! But, we only stopped to eat, fuel the truck, restroom breaks, and to find a motel room, somewhere close to 9 or 10 p.m. And - - believe it, or not - - I didn't even take my camera out of the bag until we pulled off at this 'scenic view spot'!

San Rafael Reef, Utah

We had fun with a process of elimination re: places/areas/states that we now know we DO NOT ever want to live in!!
In contrast, we also found several areas definitely worthy of consideration!

I've included a four-shot panorama of this same area in my Contender gallery.

Greetings!!! Happy Belated Fourth of July!!
Well, I certainly have let life and my activities get in the way of any participation in this community for too long!
After my return from Sequoia National Park, we began final preparations for a party, here at our home, featuring an incredible and hilarious show by comedienne/singer/songwriter Kacey Jones. (out of Nashville) An excellent time was had by all !

I took this image just before the party began, of the fountain close to our front door!

If you ever get a chance to see and hear Kacey in person, go for it! Actually her CD's are great too, but you miss the facial expressions, and body language!
P.S. Irish.....tell me that you DO have drink holders like these!!?!

Hey....Agilitypics....this one's for you!

Back to Sequoia Natl. Park - - -
While we were standing in complete awe of the magnitude and magnificience of this incredible Sequoia tree, we met this darling couple from Belguim. During a nice visit, they asked me to take a picture of the two of them with their camera. I then asked permission to take some shots of them w/my camera, and explained the DP community. I told them of Agilitypics, and that I would direct this post to him!

They are: Lien VanDuffel and Benny Janssens
We had already given the borrowed pen back to its owner, when I asked what town they were from. They pronounced it, and when I knew I wouldn't remember that, they told me that the name would translate to "Sunnyville"?

Lien and Benny: We really enjoyed our visit with you, and hope that you did also manage to visit Yosemite!?
Here's a link to Agilitypics; he lives in the town of Ogy: http://agilitypics.smugmug.com/

The General Sherman
Heralded as "the world's largest living organism", it has a base circumference of 102 ft, a diameter of 36 1/2ft, is 274 feet tall and has its first major branch 130 ft. above the ground. This first branch has a diameter, at its connection to the tree trunk, of 7 ft! The tree's trunk weighs about 1400 tons and contains enouch wood to build 40 or more houses. (Although we never found info with an approimate square footage that they were calculating these houses into their formula with).
Despite its estimated age of 2300 - 2700 years, the General Sherman Tree is growing vigorously. Every year, the General sherman grows enough new wood to mae a 60-foot-tall tree of usual proportions. The tree was named in 1879 by James Wolverton after the general under whom he had served during the Civil War.

In all the world, Sequoias grow naturally only on the west slope of the Sierra Nevada, most often between 5,000 and 7,000 feet of elevation. There are some 75 groves in all. Chemicals in the wood and bark provide resistance to insects and fungi, and thick bark insulates them from most fire. The main cause of Sequoia deaths is toppling. They have a shallow root system, with no taproot. Soil moisture, root damage, and strong winds can lead to toppling.

Two shot panorama, stacked horizontally --- And, no! I do not know why I did not also take the third shot which would have incuded the top of this beautiful giant!?!?
**************************************************************************************
While working further with these photos, I found that I DID manage a 4-shot panorama, stacked horizontally, showing this incredible tree in its entirety!!
 It's in my Sequoia gallery

I've been too busy since our return from the Sequoia Natl. Park trip for any 'photo time', which also means any time spent in this wonderful community! I miss it when I can't participate :(

For the last several days, I've had reason to be working with photos from some of our 'Ladies Camping Trips'.
This one is from two years ago.

I'm posting it becauce I have an invitation to extend/ proposition to present/favor to request that somewhat goes along with this image!

This next Thursday evening, June 18, here in Atascadero, CA., this group of friends, plus quite a few more, are having quite the fun party! One of the highlights will be a show presenting a wonderful comedienne/singer/songwriter (Kacey Jones, from Nashville)--check her on YouTube--

So the invitation/proposition/favor: Is there any DP member(s) that would like a great, fun reason/excuse to head to our Central Coast area to attend our party!?!? We need some 'good' photos taken, especially some group shots, and I know I'll have a touch too much on my plate to be responsible for that as well. So, before I gather up a 'local' to take care of this for us, I wanted to run it by y'all first!?
(Wow! considering you before our 'locals'; huummmm!)
It will be tons of fun (trust me!!), really good food, great entertainment, much laughter, I'll house you, you'll get credit and link on an upcoming website...................anyone interested/available?!?!
If so, please get in touch! This would also certainly serve as a fabulous S'Mugger get-together, and we could have fun thereafter posting some shots in here from the party !!

Huummm.....can't wait to see what kind of response this summons up!?

Silliman Crest, Sequoia National Park

This last Friday night, I was having dinner with my friend Ella in the Wuksachi Lodge. This is the sight that was appearing, as I was gazing out the huge picture windows. "Ella....I'll be right back!"

Weekly Challenge: Painting With Light
I submitted another image from this same sunset as my Challenge entry.

Today we explored the wonderful community of Three Rivers and its charming personalities.
A definite favorite was the Rio Sierra Riverhouse! (http://www.rio-sierra.com/index2.html)
An awesome B & B with frontage on the Kaweah River. The Proprietress invited Ella and I
to enjoy the grounds for the afternoon.
I was taking photos of my just finished 'rockstack' as three kayaks appeared upstream.
Got a few shots of them passing by and apparently they had come to the end of their run.
We had the opportunity to visit with them as they were heading up to the road. I asked permission to take a few shots of them and also asked to post this as my DP.

Simon (L) and Dan (R) are from Blackburn, England, and Simon (center) is from New Zealand. They are experiencing an extended adventure in California, kayaking the awesome rivers! I asked, and they said Blackburn is about 4 hrs. from my friend in Lincoln!!

Excellent to meet you fine adventurerers! Welcome to California and may your river runs be fun, wild and safe! I've included all the photos I took of you in a Three Rivers gallery.

Hey....InOurTime.....this one's for you!!

My friend Ella and I headed out this morning for our long awaited trip to Sequoia National Park. Our first nights lodging is here at the wonderful Buckeye Tree Lodge, in Three Rivers, which is just outside the Park. We took a walk before dinner to view the Kaweah River from the Pumpkin Hollow Bridge (built 1922). Here is where we met up with these fine gentlemen!

They are from Hoboken!! Check out the graphics on Terry's bue t-shirt: The Hobokener
FYI: On the left is Jim Magenheimer. They are on a two week vacation in CA.
We enjoyed a very nice visit. After I heard where they were from, I explained SmugMug, the DP Community and InOurTime!! I asked if they would agree to this photo so I could post it for you. They will be viewng this DP after their return home.

Thanks Terry and Jim, it was a pleasure to meet you. And here is a quick way to access the site for InOurTime: http://inourtime.smugmug.com/

I probably won't be able to spend much time in the Dailies during our trip, but I'm glad I was able to post this one.

Our son, Steven, presented me with the gift of this Pretty Purple Poultry Pen!! He handed it to me saying "I saw this in a store today, and it reminded me of you!" ROFLMAO !!!!

The pen stands upright in its little stand inbetween uses.

The first of my Daffodils had opened on this particular morning, so when I was inspired to photograph the 'pen' , my creative side suggested I combine the two subject matters for the contrasting color coordination.

I did use a different image from this 'photo shoot' as a DP late in February. However, being given 'Pen' as the Challenge, I chose to share this subject matter again because it's so damn cute and unique!!

Experienced some wonderful entertainment this evening ! Maria, her Mom and I went to an outstanding local venue,
Green Acres Lavender Farm to listen to a great band, The Demos.

They put on an awesome show! I borrowed Maria's camera to grab a few shots of Danny Naccarato, as he was blazin' on his steel guitar!
He's an incredibly talented musician......thanks, Danny!

After handing the camera back to Maria, she laughed saying it was a good shot of me taking the photo, in the reflection of the mirror!
I hadn't even noticed that yet!!
